Handel is seeking a 2020 rematch with freshman Democrat, Lucy McBath. In 2018 McBath defeated Handel 50.45% to 49.55% in her bid for election to a full term in the House.
She became the first women to represent Georgia in the House in 2017 when she won the special election held to fill the unexpired term of Rep. Tom Price.
In 2006, Karen was elected Georgia’s Secretary of State, the first Republican to hold that office. She served until 2010 when she narrowly lost the gubernatorial primary to Nathan Deal.
